1,Smoking at the dinner table?
Alex:You must be insane! one can smoke in certain establishments only after all one’s guests have finished eating and one’s host has invited the gentleman to enjoy a smoke with their brandy.
2,The order of the coursese?
Alex:The general order of the course is aperitif(开胃酒), starter(第一道菜,通常是汤、果汁或鱼), main dish, a selection of cheeses and a glass of port(红葡萄酒), then coffee with a vintage cognac(上等法国白兰地). it is polite in English society to have one courses served one at a time with a break in between to fully appreciate one’s food.
3,The matter of the toast?
Alex: It is polite to propose toasts to one’s host and guests but it would be unforgivable to not propose the first toast to the Queen; Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England.
